Dustins's Page

Dustin Perreira was a young St. Louis 7th grader with a zest for surfing, skateboarding, and showing his Mom and Dad’s dogs.  He was a very successful Junior Handler and participated in many of the dog fancier’s functions.

In the Fall of 1989, Dustin’s heart condition worsened and he was put on a waiting list for a heart transplant at Stanford University.  Unfortunately he was unable to sustain the wait and passed away on November 26th.  His fellow dog fanciers planned to hold an all breed match to defer some of his medical costs.  The first match was held at Thomas Square on December 10th of 1989 and has continued since then known as "A Heart for Dustin".

Because of its success, Dustin’s Mom and Dad decided to contribute yearly to a scholarship fund in his name at St. Louis High School.  Every year a Scholarship is given to a St. Louis student in need who is interested in veterinary medicine or a related field.  This award is given every April at a banquet at St. Louis.  The scholarship fund is partly contributed to by this match.
